Karaga is the capital of the Karaga District. It is located in the north east of the Northern Region of Ghana.
The Karaga District was formed when the former Gushiegu-Karaga district was split into two. Karaga, which has about 20% of the new district's population[1] became the capital. The Electoral Commission of Ghana created the Karaga constituency in 2004 prior to the presidential and parliamentary elections due to the creation of the new district.
